First held in 1982 starting from Burslem, the Potteries Marathon was soon moved to Trentham Gardens, and was widely regarded to have one of the best finishes in the world
Although the race took place over a hilly course, it was very popular with runners and was voted the ‘Best race in Britain’ three times by readers of Running Magazine
One of the early winners was Ian Thompson who had previously won the European and Commonwealth marathons. Another popular winner over subsequent years was Mark Roberts, winning a record seven times
The last race was held in 2004, but after dwindling numbers and increasing costs it was decided to change to a half marathon to gain more interest
As Trentham Gardens was no longer a suitable start point it was relocated to Hanley Town Centre and renamed the ‘Potters ‘Arf.’ Since the initial ‘Arf marathon in 2005 the race has grown in popularity with runners and is now attracting fantastic spectator support associated with full marathons. This year we invite you to help us celebrate the 31st race held in the Potteries

Run with Team Dougie Mac
Dougie Mac is proud to be one of the associated charities of the Potters ‘Arf Marathon. Over the past 10 years 643 runners have chosen to run the Potters ‘Arf and raise funds for the Hospice. Together they have contributed over £206,000 to help provide free end of life care in your local community
Last year we provided care and support to 3,000 local people, their families and their carers and this would not have been possible without the support of people just like you. Every year we are amazed by the support of our runners so we would be honoured to welcome anyone who would like to join Team Dougie Mac and run to raise funds
Once again all our runners will be able to ‘Lace it up’ and receive free yellow shoe laces thanks to our friends at New Balance
To join the 1000s of runners who have already represented Team Dougie Mac at the Potters ‘Arf please visit fundraising.dmhospice.org.uk, call the fundraising team on 01782 344304 or email email@example.com

The Donna Louise Trust
At The Donna Louise Hospice our entire focus is to support children who have serious, complex, life-limiting or life threatening conditions and their families throughout Staffordshire and Cheshire
We’re a registered charity mainly financed by voluntary contributions. Our care services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days and cost £3m a year to deliver. There is no charge to families using the service. We rely on generous support to fund the important work we do and without those donations we simply wouldn’t exist
We work alongside families to help them identify how we can support them in the care of their child or young person. We provide the care and support that they and their families need, wherever and whenever they need it – at the hospice in Trentham, or in their own home
We often fail to think about the impact a child’s illness can have on the whole family, who often themselves provide constant care around the clock. But with the help of the dedicated, specialist team at The Donna Louise none of our families need to go through this alone
Every moment a child spends with us is precious. We tailor our package of care to provide the best possible care and support, always shaped by the changing needs of the children and families that we serve, so that they feel informed supported and involved, to a level that suits their individual medical, emotional and spiritual needs
Our overarching aim is to bring our families a sense of normality, so often taken for granted by us all, to help them remember that they are parents first and foremost and carers second, which is sometimes forgotten or overlooked.
Below are links to our events and challenges which are a great way to raise funds for the hospice

The Donna Louise is belly laughs and best friends, it’s light in the darkest hour, it’s glitter and sparkle, Xbox and drums, it’s real understanding – it’s so much more than you think. Whatever our children, young people or families need, The Donna Louise is there. Wherever, whenever, always.
