Members of The Hanley Building Society topped the league table of membership turnout in the 2009/10 Annual General Meetings (AGM) from a research conducted by the Building Societies Association in which 44 Societies took part.

The Society had an impressive 24.1% turnout at its AGM in 2009 in which the average turnout was 14.2%. Commenting on the research was David Lownds, Senior Manager for Marketing

“We are delighted to have the highest turnout of all Societies that took part in the research. Member engagement is extremely important to our business and we encourage all members to use their vote.

We were one of the first Societies to introduce electronic voting over the Internet and this has been a tremendous success alongside members who decide to vote in one of our branches or via the post.

Our 2010 AGM takes place in December so we will be asking members once again to vote during the autumn voting period and we will looking to improve further upon the membership turnout.”

The Hanley has employed the services of local scrutineers Howsons in Leek, Staffordshire to operate the online voting system.
