Data Protection Principles

The eight Data Protection Principles:-

a) Personal data shall be processed fairly and lawfully and, with a limited number of exceptions, is not to be processed unless the data subject consents. In the case of personal sensitive data; information relating to ethnic background, religious beliefs, sexual orientation etc, the data subject must give explicit consent.


b) Personal data is to be obtained only for one or more specified and lawful purposes and not to be processed further in an incompatible manner.


c) Personal data is to be adequate and relevant and not excessive.


d) Personal data is to be accurate and, where necessary, kept up to date.


e) Personal data processed for any purpose or purposes is not to be kept for longer than is necessary for that purpose.


f) Personal data shall be processed in accordance with the rights of the data subject.


g) Appropriate technical and organisational measures are to be taken against unauthorised or unlawful processing and against loss, destruction of or damage to personal data.

Personal data is not to be transferred to a country or territory outside the European economic area.
