The Hanley teams up with Beswicks Solicitors for Wills

The Hanley Building Society has teamed up with local solicitors, Beswicks, to encourage customers to make sure that they have a will.
“Making your will is one of those steps that is often put off, and yet it is one of the most important steps that you can take to protect your family finances,“ explains Rob Hassall, Marketing Manager from The Hanley Economic Building Society.

With family structures being more complicated and many couples living together without necessarily getting married, it is surprising just how many people do not realise that they are in a vulnerable position should a spouse or partner die.

A recent Panorama programme stressed how important it is to have a will written by a solicitor rather than a will writing company who have no regulatory body or compensation fund should you suffer a loss.

As part of our philosophy of customer care, we felt that this was an important service to offer to our customers and are delighted that Beswicks have agreed to help us. Without a valid will, money and possessions will be distributed in accordance with strict intestacy rules laid down by Parliament, and so not necessarily as you may wish.
There are many advantages to having a will, in which you can:

1. ensure that your assets are distributed in accordance with your wishes

2. choose who your executor(s) will be, to handle your estate

3. prevent legal problems arising after your death

4. choose who will be responsible for the care of your children

5. provide for your children financially

6. provide for your partner if you are not married or in a civil partnership

7. ensure that family heirlooms remain within the family

8. help your favourite cause, through a tax-free donation to charity

9. leave gifts to friends and family

10. set out any wishes regarding your funeral

11. protect any business interests

12. minimise inheritance tax payable

“We are delighted to be working with The Hanley” comments Howard Heath, Head of the Wills and Probate Team at Beswicks Solicitors.  “We share the same ethos of quality of service and putting the best interests of our clients first.”

Beswicks can also help in planning to protect your home against residential care or nursing home fees and with a lasting power of attorney.
