Account name-checking service

What is Confirmation of Payee?

Confirmation of Payee scheme is all about making your payments safer. It is a name checking service for UK based payments ensuring the account holders name matches with the account details, which provides customers greater assurance that they are sending payments to the intended recipient, helping to avoid making accidental, misdirected payments to the wrong account holder, as well as providing another layer of protection in the fight against fraud and scams.

Paying in Money to a Hanely Economic account

If you already have a regular payment set up to send funds to your Hanley account, you don’t need to do anything. If you’re setting up a new electronic payment into your account, you’ll need to input the following information:

  • Your Full Name: (first name and surname)
  • Our Account Number: 09995102
  • Our sort code: 30-01-20
  • Reference: Your account number

Only Hanley Savings accounts are eligible for the confirmation of payee scheme. If you are making a payment to the business account, you need to select that is is a business account and enter the full business or organisation name

How do I know if a payment is safe?

The Confirmation of Payee service will give you 4 different results:

  • Account name is a match
  • Account name is a close match
  • Account name is not a match
  • Unable to check the account

Account name is a match

This means the account name matches the payee’s account name.

Although the name matches, make sure you’re happy that you know who you’re paying and that they’re trustworthy.

Account name is a close match

This means the account name is close to the payee’s name.

You’ll be shown the name on the account you’re paying to help you decide whether it’s the right person. Double-check the details and request another Confirmation of Payee check before sending any payment.

Account name is not a match

This means the account name doesn't match the payee’s name.

Double-check the details and request another Confirmation of Payee check, otherwise your money could be sent to the wrong account.

When it’s not possible to match a name, we’ll let you know that the payment could be sent to the wrong account. If you choose to go ahead anyway, we may not be able to get your money back.

Unable to check the account:

Sometimes, we won’t be able to check the name on the account you’re sending money to. That doesn’t mean that anything’s wrong. It could just be that the payee’s building society or bank isn’t using Confirmation of Payee yet.

You can continue with the payment – but always double-check the account name and details are correct.
